I can’t believe I can actually tell you that there will be meaningful December football played in New York in 2020.

No, this is not a misprint. This is not fake news.

For both the New York Giants and Jets, the month of December will provide fans a reason to watch every play and every snap with a very watchful eye.

However, the reasons for that are drastically different.

The New York Giants are shockingly in a division race. How is a 3-7 football team a half-game out of first place? Well, that’s the NFC East in 2020 for you!

Look, the Giants are far from perfect. They are a flawed football team, but they are playing the best football of any of the four teams in the division over the last month.

The schedule gets tricky and it’s still probably asking a lot, but at the very least you can dare to dream.

On the other hand, the Jets season has a whole lot of meaning, not because of postseason chances but because of the possibility of landing the number-one overall pick in next April’s NFL Draft.

The Jets are winless, but at this stage in the game each loss may add up to a massive longterm win.

The only silver lining for Jets fans in this atrocity of a 2020 season is to end up with Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2021.

The best way to ensure that possibility is by losing the remaining six games on the schedule.

The Jets might not be playing for a trip to the postseason, but each game has plenty of meaning moving forward if you’re endgame is to “Tank For Trevor.”

A 3-7 team trying to win a division and a fanbase rooting for an 0-16 season? If that doesn’t sum up the terrible year that has been 2020, I don’t know what does.
