I begin this article with the hope that all are staying safe and healthy during this pandemic.

As I walk through Woodhaven, I am starting to see more stores reopening while adhering to the guidelines. All it takes is a little bit of effort, but it can help save lives during this crisis.

Woodhaven can once again be the small town "haven in the city" as Maria Thomson always said, and we can enjoy the shopping strip that we have grown to love.

As many of you may already know, I also work at two senior centers as a craft programmer and of course those classes have temporarily ceased. I miss my seniors, but I do keep in touch with them often and continue to pray that they stay well.

Remember to call those in need. It takes just a few minutes to make someone's day.

Memorial Day was on Monday, and it brought to mind those that have sacrificed their lives for us and for our country. The GWDC hosted a small Memorial Day observance every year in Forest Parkway Plaza by the WWII monument, but unfortunately this year that event had to be cancelled.

Please remember those who fought for our freedom and keep them all in your prayers.

With June comes the heat and all the outdoor activities. Be smart and wear your masks and remember social distancing so that we can once again enjoy what we love and take for granted.

It can be as simple as a swing in the park, sitting down at the bagel shop for coffee or, in my case, a day at Rockaway Beach.

And while you are home, fill out your U.S. Census forms. I have done mine already, it takes just a few minutes and it is very important for our community to get what we deserve.

Just a reminder that during this pandemic the best way to reach our office is by email at gwdcbid@hotmail.com. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Stay safe and hopefully we will see you all again very soon!
