Dear Editor,

The ash heap of history is replete with the remains of failed socialist utopias.

The great historical irony is that unlike the Russian people who fought the

Bolsheviks and lost 15 million lives, Americans this November will have an opportunity to vote themselves into socialism.

If Americans had solid foundations in our history, they would be more critical of the emerging democratic socialist platform.

Ending income inequality is literally impossible because some people will always make more money than others. There are rich and poor people in both capitalist and

socialist countries.

There are more than a few Democratic presidential candidates who desire to use the power of government to create a level of conformity and reduce everyone to the same

level.

Under socialism, a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the state to regulate, tax and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living.

Some call it communism. Some call it fascism. Some call it democratic socialism. No one is ever free under socialism.

John Steinbeck once said, “Socialism never took root in America because the poor do

not see themselves as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed

millionaires.”

Sincerely,

Ed Konecnik
