On December 19, Lisa Altimari and Kandice Rogers, organizers of the Kew Gardens Flea Market, joined the pediatric staff for a Christmas celebration.
Rogers, who is also a member of the Women’s Committee of Local 28 Sheet Metal Workers, said she was honored to take part in the event.
“The women of our local union are moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and friends,” she said, “so we all understand the importance of helping to make the holidays a special time for all children.”
The flea market is hosted four times a year, twice in the spring and twice in the fall, in the Kew Gardens LIRR parking lot at 82-60 Austin Street.
The vendor fees from the events are used to purchase non-medical items for JHMC’s pediatric unit, including the purchase of gifts for children during Christmas.
Kara Myers from LIRR Public Affairs said the Kew Gardens market is also a great opportunity for vendors to sell their items.
“Shoppers come from near and far, and are afforded the ability to shop small,” she said. “It provides for upcoming businesses to showcase their items in an exceptionally orchestrated market.”
