For 36 years, Hamilton Beach resident Michael Giglio has put on extravagant and dazzling Christmas light displays at his home at 102-24 Rau Court.

With more than 80,000 lights and ornaments, including some hand-made paintings of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and more, Giglio fills every inch of his house with decorations.

This year, he has even included new characters like the minions from the movie “Despicable Me,” the Grinch and Jack Skellington.

“This is the biggest I’ve done,” he said. “There is no more room to go bigger other than on the roof of my house.”

Giglio said when he was a kid, he used to bug his father about putting up Christmas lights. Now, he believes his house has more lights than the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

“I used to tell my kids that Santa Claus can’t miss this house because it’s so bright,” he said. “There’s not a piece of the house that doesn’t have a light.”

Giglio, who has been retired for the last six months, said it took him one month and two weeks to complete the display with the help of friends in the area.

The challenges still persist, including constant problems with flooding in Hamilton Beach.

“I have to prop up the decorations two feet in the air,” he said.

In previous years, Giglio also collected money for the volunteer fire department next door. In the past, he raised hundreds of dollars to benefit the group.

But this year, Giglio said he won’t be raising funds due to a lack of support.

Still, he wants people from across the borough and the city to see the light show in Hamilton Beach, which will be up the rest of the holiday season.

“I really do it so people can come by to admire my hard work,” Giglio said.
