Say it isn’t so, but the month of August is here. I can’t believe July is over already.

But August brings us several great events. First, the Annual 102nd Precinct’s National Night Out Against Crime will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at Victory Field from 6 to 9 p.m.

This is a great family event for all. The GWDC has a table there every year, and we will be giving out all kinds of goodies for the kids and adults.

Many other community groups also have tables and plenty of freebies, not to mention the free food and music. Last year, there was a dunk tank, a rock-climbing section and other activities for the kids.

Some people didn’t know this event even exists, and I am trying my best to pass the news to everyone in the neighborhood, so spread the word. It’s a great night for the community to get together.

Plastic Soul will headline Oldies Music Night at Forest Parkway Plaza from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 9, weather permitting. We were able to fund this musical event through some of the proceeds from our “Price is Right” fundraiser. We hope you can attend.

Assemblyman Mike Miller and the GWDC are co-sponsoring a Metrocard Van visit on Tuesday, August 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the intersection of Forest Parkway and Jamaica Avenue. MTA representatives will be on site to answer questions and provide other services.

We are still trying to secure Mets tickets, and will let you know as soon as we hear back. We asked for tickets for the beginning of September, now we must wait and see.

And as if anyone could forget, the Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival will take place on October 13 from noon to 6 p.m. More on that next month.

By the time I write again, summer will almost be over, so take time to enjoy the lazy hazy summer days while they are still here.
