My mom is no longer with me. It seems like just yesterday that I was enjoying having a conversation with her, but her memory stays with me always. Cherish your moms while you can, there may be a time that you can't and wish you could.
I often hear people say that their mom is the best, but I can say without a doubt that can't be true, as I had the best mom ever.
The Woodhaven Business Improvement District will be holding a special Mother's Day event on Friday, May 10, at 1 p.m. at the Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Senior Citizens Center at 89-02 91st Street.
There will be live music, refreshments and a few other surprises. So if you are a senior citizen, come and enjoy a day devoted to all the mothers out there.
The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation will also be holding a special meeting on May 15 at 7 p.m. at Woodhaven Manor at 96-01 Jamaica Avenue.
The guest speaker will be a representative from the U.S. Census Bureau, who will discuss the 2020 Census and the great job opportunities available. Light refreshments will be served.
The next big event is taking place in May. The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation secured 200 free Mets tickets for residents of Woodhaven. This game is on Monday, May 20, at Citi Field.
The GWDC has less than ten tickets left. If you were one of the lucky ones get a ticket that is great. If not, you can still call our office for a chance to attend the game.
The GWDC's Annual Memorial Day Observance in Forest Parkway Plaza in honor of the veterans of past and present wars will take place on Thursday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. We will place our newly decorated memorial wreath by the WWII Monument, where it will stand throughout the year.
We will have guest speakers, patriotic music and free large flags, the perfect size to hang outside your home. We hope to see you there!
And on June 20, our organization will be hosting a "Price is Right"-themed fundraiser.
While you can't win a BMW or a trip to Hawaii that evening, there will be great prizes and lots of fun. More details to come on this event in the June column.
Once again, the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation and I would like to say Happy Mother's Day to all!
