Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the increase in accidents on Woodhaven Boulevard since the Select Bus Service lanes and traffic pattern changes?
In the last three weeks, I have personally seen four accidents on the boulevard at 91st, 89th and Jamaica avenues, including two where pedestrians were injured.
Could it be that DOT got it wrong when they decided to mess with the flow of the boulevard? Could it be that Vision Zero isn't working here?
At 89th Avenue, I have witnessed a number of cars turning left onto the southbound service lane run into the black metal bollards. These bollards are meant to protect pedestrians, but they are too short to be seen clearly by anyone turning left there.
Now I see that a crosswalk is being installed at 88th Avenue, but why? This is not a through street ad there is nothing on the east side of the boulevard except garages belonging to people who live on 94th Street.
There is no reason for anyone to cross at that corner. In reality, it is just another light that will slow down traffic.
Woodhaven Boulevard is becoming a wasteland of broken fenders and mangled pedestrians thanks to the mayor and Department of Transportation, who have no vision for what this neighborhood really needs.
