Regarding your opinion piece ("One year later, has your ride improved?" - 9/20), the answer is hell no!
Our subway is a mess, thanks to the MTA's multi-tasking, multi-millionaire chairman Joe Lhota. He holds three high-powered and high-paying jobs concurrently, which is a recipe for attention deficit order or burnout.
When does he sleep? Apparently while he runs the MTA. His perverted priorities are one reason why our transit system is so dysfunctional.
The MTA is spending $573 million to replace Metrocards by 2023 while subway station ceilings collapse. Why not spend that money to fix the system and then change the payment method?
Another project will extend LIRR access to Grand Central Terminal in 2022. This will mainly benefit Nassau and Suffolk County commuters and is comparable to
adding a new wing on an old house that's falling apart.
How about doing one job at time, Joe. We deserve your undivided attention.
