Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato presented Romanelli-Stephen Funeral Home, Matteo’s of Howard Beach, Cross Bay Diner, Wines & Spirits of Howard Beach, and Almonte’s Key Food Supermarket of Howard Beach with an Assembly Citations honoring them all as “Small Business of the Month.”

“These local businesses have supported me for many years but today,” Randy Novick, founder & CEO of American Softball, told Pheffer Amato. “You expressed and made them realize in your own words just how important their support is.”

They were honored collectively for their contributions to the American Softball League, an organization dedicated to assisting developmentally challenged and handicapped adults through playing softball.

“Randy and Tina through American Softball have created something really special for our community,” said Sal Puliafico, owner of Wines and Spirits of Howard Beach.

The league meets weekly over the summer, and the businesses honored provided water, food, and other equipment to the league, all free of charge.

“These businesses went above and beyond donating to the folks that need it most,” Pheffer Amato said. “They demonstrate how small businesses help to improve communities.”
