Generally speaking, the Queens County Republican Party fields a candidate in the general election against the Democrat, but this year there were two primaries in State Senate races .
In northeast Queens, Vickie Paladino defeated Simon Minching with 57 percent of the vote. Minching was supported by the Queens GOP, while Paladino openly antagonized party leadership.
Last week, she got into a shouting match with party executive director Bart Haggerty at a meeting of the Queens Village Republican Club. It was so heated the NYPD had to be called.
Paladino will face John Liu, who defeated State Senator Tony Avella, in November. However it will be crowded ballot, as Minching will still be on the Conservative Party line, while Avella will be on the Women's Equity and Independence party lines.
In south Queens, party-backed Tom Sullivan easily defeated Slawomir Platta with 68 percent of the vote. Sullivan will face State Senator Joseph Addabbo.
