The goal of the panel, which will be moderated by Flushing Town Hall’s Director of Education & Public Programs Gabrielle Hamilton, is to explore the tribe’s history, culture and customs. Topics discussed will include best practices in acknowledging Matinecock tribal territories and tools to help the tribe in building relationships with local organizations and government.
Foodies will enjoy the egg roll making workshop on August 21 when the New York Institute of Culture and the Arts’ Dr. Hsing-Lih Chou and other chefs demonstrate how to make Cantonese, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese style egg rolls.
“This summer will feature a dynamic array or arts and culture for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience,” said Flushing Town Hall Executive and Artistic Director Ellen Kodadek. “At Flushing Town Hall, we continue to share global arts with a global community by presenting a diverse selection of programming and the summer is no exception.”
In 2017, the cultural arts center served nearly 55,000 people through its programs and shows. Additionally, 615 artists participated in the array of programming, including 47 artists from overseas.
The launch of the institution's summer season on Monday, June 25, featured teaser performances from The Colors of Frida by Teatro SEA as well as a demonstration of Silleta flower-making to highlight the Festival de las Flores, or the Flower Festival.
Flushing Town Hall also announced that during this season, they will continue their Teen Access Program, which grants free entry to performances for 13- to 19-year-olds whether or not they are members. This program encourages young people to engage with the arts opportunities in the community.
