You can see the red Santa hats, courtesy of the WBID, on the young and the young at heart walking merrily while listening to the holiday music on Jamaica Avenue from Dexter Court to 100th Street.
The holiday parade has marched on, and Santa Claus and his friends are no longer taking free pictures in Forest Parkway Plaza in front of the beautiful Christmas tree.
The brightly lit decorations on our trees glow like diamonds in the night, and Woodhaven school children have placed decorations on the fence and shrubs in this area and Sal's Pizzeria and Avenue Diner. The decorations along the avenue brighten the way for all of our shoppers.
All of these amenities are brought to Woodhaven residents and shoppers by the Woodhaven Business Improvement District and the stores and businesses through their monetary contributions.
So spend your gift money in the “Everything Avenue” stores and businesses that care. The WBID hopes that you enjoy all of these holiday activities.
The television show "Gotham" was filmed at Schmidt's Confectionery, where WBID board member and owner Margie Schmidt was busy making candies for Christmas. The candy was enjoyed by the filmmakers as they worked. They discovered what we have know in Woodhaven since 1925.
WBID chairman Mathew Xenakis, the excellent WBID Board of Directors, GWDC/WBID staff Maureen Bermingham, Lisa Komninos, Megan Arfmann, Lina Gao, Krystian Genesla and Debra Cronin, and myself wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, prosperous and safe New Year.
