The interesting thing about it is that they are revealing two street signs, instead of just one as is generally the case when the city renames a street for a notable local resident.
Also, this photo is clearly pre-9/11, and we're not sure how many streets were renamed prior to the tragic event that claimed the lives of so many New Yorkers and first responders.
Perhaps it's not a street renaming at all, but the Department of Transportation revealing new signs that harken back to the days before Queens was a confusing mess of numbered streets and avenues.
At the center of the picture is former Queens borough president Helen Marshall and John Sabini, probably from his days in the City Council, before he was elected to the State Senate. That said, we can't identify any of the other folks in the photo.
