Councilman Donovan Richards and State Senator James Sanders announced the creation the Q114 bus route, which will provide a faster commute from Jamaica to Far Rockaway than the current Q113.
The Q113 — running between Jamaica, Nassau County and Far Rockaway — makes 77 stops to Jamaica and 67 stops to Far Rockaway. The new Q114 now has 50 stops to Jamaica and 44 to Far Rockaway, cutting commuting time in half.
Q114 bus service began on August 31, and a difference can already be seen for travelers in the large southeast Queens community that the bus serves. For many, the Q113 provided access to the subway, linking up with the E, J, Z and F trains. Now the Q114 will do the same, but in significantly less time.
“Historically, the neighborhoods of Southeast Queens and the Rockaways have lacked access to reliable public transportation,” Richards said. “I applaud the MTA’s effort to listen to the needs of commuters and respond accordingly through the creation of an alternative bus route.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the MTA to provide dependable and most importantly, efficient mass transit alternatives for residents.”
