The hot weather continues into this the second week of August and I love it. But as I have stated before, I hope that you have air conditioners and if you have to go out stop periodically in our air-conditioned stores on your Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue.

Or go into one of our restaurants, and sit and have a cold drink. If you need to buy groceries, there are stores that you can call and they will deliver what you need.

In this heat, please water our street trees. Did you know that having a tree in front of your home increases your property value by thousands of dollars? If you are fortunate enough to have a tree in front of your home or in front of your store, please water them. You can use the water from your air conditioners.

Now mark your calendars for a partying weekend. On Saturday, August 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., the WBID will sponsor an evening of music at Forest Parkway Plaza area featuring the group Plastic Soul playing all types of music.

After enjoying the performance, eat out at one of our WBID restaurants or order in. As it will be Restaurant Week, it would be a good time to go to one of our great local restaurants.

Then this Sunday August 17, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Crazy Willy’s, 117-10 Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill, there will be Doo-wop music with Dino and the Boys. So stay local and enjoy some good entertainment.

The New York Public Library at 188 Madison Avenue has several upcoming programs for small businesses. They include:

• Social Media 102 - August 21 at noon - Petia A. Bradshaw and Kendra Webb-Scott discuss Strategies for monetizing all of the time and effort you spend on social media. Preregistration required at

• Facebook for Business- August 21 at 6 p.m. - Charlie Conard discusses best practices for building your business’ presence on Facebook.

Remember that District Attorney Richard Brown's office has a Domestic Violence Unit available to you. Please call (718) 296-6550.

Fly our American flags proudly above all others and wear your American flag lapel pins. May God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces and disabled cveterans and may God bless our America.
