The food was cooked by acclaimed chefs Jarett Appell of Stella 34 Trattoria, Antonio Prontelli of Rock Center Café, and Alex Reyes of Café SFA at Saks Fifth Avenue as part of Citymeals “Chefs Deliver for Citymeals” program.
Citymeals-on-Wheels has been preparing and delivering weekend, holiday and emergency meals for 18,000 homebound elderly New Yorkers since 1981. All of the meal recipients are chronically disabled, and almost 75 percent also live alone.
Many of these elderly residents are at risk for malnutrition.
The “Chefs Deliver” initiative was launched by board members of Citymeals. The program asks culinary notables to cook, and often personally deliver, meals on the first Tuesday of every month.
Last week in Far Rockaway, residents ate meals of prosciutto, mozzarella, carta di musica, arugula pesto, fruit salad, pan-roasted Amish chicken breast, pimento spiced cage-free chicken breast, ratatouille and more.
“Thanks to Chefs Deliver, our most vulnerable neighbors have the chance to enjoy restaurant-quality meals created by celebrated chefs throughout the city,” Citymeals Executive Director Beth Shapiro said.
Last week, meals were also delivered to residents in Hell’s Kitchen and Howard Beach.
