At our Annual 2014 Woodhaven Business Improvement District (WBID) meeting we were speaking about our Woodhaven. This meeting was dedicated to discussion of our WBID and our “Everything Avenue,” Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue from Dexter Court to 100th Street.

All of the positive changes to our Woodhaven and Jamaica Avenue have taken hard work through the years by the GWDC and then with the assistance of the WBID. Woodhaven truly has it all.

This WBID was founded 21 years ago, and remains the only BID in Southern Queens outside of Jamaica, which has three. Our thriving shopping strip with mom and pop stores and larger stores contribute to our vibrant Woodhaven Community.

This is the reason that every year the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation sponsors our Annual Spring Anniversary Dinner Dance. At these Dinner Dances we honor our great elected officials, storeowners, business owners and contributors to our community.

This year, the theme of our 35th dinner dance is “Spring is Here.” It will take place on Friday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the beautiful Woodhaven Manor Caterers at 96-01 Jamaica Avenue.

Our 2014 Honorees are Congresswoman Nydia M. Velazquez as “Woman of the Year 2014” in recognition and sincere appreciation for her concerned efforts in supporting the Woodhaven Business Improvement District’s small business and store owners.

Mathew Xenakis, president of the Woodhaven Business Improvement District, is “Man of the Year 2014” in recognitionof his concerted effort, support and friendship to the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation.

Deputy Inspector Henry Sautner, commanding officer of the 102nd Precinct, will be given the “Award of Distinction 2014” in recognition and sincere appreciation for his work at the 102nd Precinct. His continued support of the GWDC has contributed to making Woodhaven “A Haven In The City.”

George Smith gets the “Honorary Woodhavenite Award 2014” in recognition and sincere appreciation for his many years as a dedicated businessman assisting the Wonderful Woodhaven Street festivals the past 22 years. Although not a Woodhaven resident, he has demonstrated his dedication and commitment to our Woodhaven community.

State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo and Assemblyman Michael G. Miller will be given “Awards of Appreciation 2014” in sincere appreciation of their support and friendship to the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation.
