Our Woodhaven Business Improvement District on our Jamaica Avenue from Dexter Court to 100th Street is busy. The weather has cleared, and it is warming up so everyone is out and about walking Jamaica Avenue, our “Everything Avenue.” window shopping and buying.

Our Woodhaven is such a wonderful community. We have transportation to Manhattan, to Long Island and anywhere through our elevated trains and our buses (including an express bus to Manhattan). Also, we have “walkability.” You can go down to the avenue and buy anything you need. These stores also deliver to your homes, if requested.

Woodhaven also has affordable homes and apartments that you can furnish by buying what you need right here on your Everything Avenue. Yes, we are indeed fortunate here in our hometown.

There was filming of an episode from the television show “Unforgettable” on our Jamaica Avenue last week around New Pop’s restaurant on a beautiful day. The actors Poppy Montgomery and Jane Curtin were spotted walking around.

I found out later that a local guy, Michael Matlak, was the assistant location manager on this shoot. This gentlemen graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School. It was nice that a hometown boy came home again in a very accomplished position.

Now to our GWDC-sponsored Spring Dinner Dance “Spring is Here,” which always celebrates the Woodhaven community and who and what makes it great. Also the GWDC’s 35th year anniversary. In this special year we are honoring special persons that have, together with the GWDC, assisted our Woodhaven.

This year our event will be held on Friday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. at our own Woodhaven Manor with our own chef preparing the buffet dinner and with libation and dancing to a great DJ playing music for all ages. Our tickets are priced at a modest $65 each, this being a much needed fundraiser.

So mark your calendar for the social event of the year. In next week’s article the suspense ends and our well-deserving honorees will be named.

May God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces, may God bless our disabled veterans and may God bless our America.
