The calendar says spring, but the weather tells a different story. With snow and then the freezing cold weather expected, we are in for some icy winter-like days. Hopefully, the warm weather is right around the corner.

Recently on our WBID, two little boys went into one of our stores, and told the cashier they were being harassed by some older boys. They were asking them if they had phones. The cashier promptly called 911 to assist them.

The WBID has distributed flyers in regard to going into one of our stores or businesses if you are in need of assistance, medical as well as harassment. This is your Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue WBID and your storeowners and business owners care about you, so go to them if you are in need of help.

The collapsed building at 78-19 Jamaica Avenue on our WBID has disrupted our community and our quality of life. Not only is our great Woodhaven Richmond Hill Ambulance Corps in jeopardy, but now our Woodhaven’s Senior Center.

It has been so adversely affected that it is also being threatened with closure. I have written our new mayor Bill de Blasio in regard to our plight. I have stated that this building must be demolished. Hopefully he will assist our elected officials and our Woodhaven community in advocating for the demolition of this building, removing this danger on our avenue. Tear it down!

A proposal has been made for the Circle Academy Charter School, to be located at 85-27 91st Street at the site of a former church, this property being of concern since its parishioners left and it was placed up for sale.

I remember how difficult it was for us to have P.S. 306 built on the old St. Anthony's property. This school was needed to accommodate the St. Anthony homeowners and the increase in students in that area of Woodhaven.

I personally think the conversion and investment in this former church property and the jobs will be good for the community. It will also give parents another choice for their children's education. You will hear more on this school as this project progresses.

Now back to spring. Hopefully our Easter Bunny will be welcomed with spring weather. Mark you calendar for his arrival on Saturday, April 12, for our WBID “Spring Promotion” with music and clowns from 1 to 4 p.m. along the avenue and free pictures with the Easter Bunny in Forest Parkway Plaza.

Also, look for our WBID staff members with their WBID hats distributing free quarters on our Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue to parking cars, thanking them for shopping here by paying for their first 15 minutes on the meters. Remember to shop Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue, “The Everything Avenue.”

May God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces, may God bless our disabled veterans, and may God bless our America.
