The warm weather and April showers are finally here and I am very happy for the warmth and needed rain. So get out and eat lunch or dinner out at one of our Jamaica Avenue restaurants or order in from one of the many great restaurants.

With all of these choice places, you don't have to cook, just take it easy.

On Sunday, May 15, the Goodfellas Doo-Wop Club will present a tribute and celebration of the great Billy Dawn Smith, writer of more than 700 songs, at beautiful Woodhaven Manor from noon to 4 p.m.

Performing at this tribute will be 15 groups, including the Teetones, The Dolphins, The Spaniels, The Chords and more. Tickets include a full buffet and are only $45. So attend and enjoy great entertainment and great company.

The Greater Woodhaven-sponsored “Small Town” Memorial Day Observance will take place on Thursday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Forest Parkway Plaza at Forest Parkway and Jamaica Avenue.

This year the ceremony is very important in light of our wreath being destroyed and our flags desecrated by two despicable individuals. The WBID is very thankful to Woodhaven’s American Legion Post 118 for their continued participation and support.

The GWDC-sponsored award-winning Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival will take place on Sunday, October 16, from noon to 6 p.m. on Jamaica Avenue from 80th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard.

The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation’s Spring Into Woodhaven dinner dance will be held on June 10 at Woodhaven Manor at 96-01 Jamaica Avenue. Tickets are only $65.

Our esteemed honorees for 2016 are Woodhaven Manor owners Sangita M. Patel and Mandeep Singh for Business of the Year; Deputy Inspector Deodat Urprasad for Special Award of the Year; Victor Liu, owner of Dexter Wines and Spirits, as Businessman of the Year.

The Woman of the Year and the Man of the Year will be revealed next week.

The Select Bus Service proposal has now been deferred to 2017, hopefully with modifications that will change the negative effect on Woodhaven and Jamaica Avenue. It's time to consider a bus route on the old Rockaway Rail Line.

Check out our Facebook page for photos of Pop's Restaurant and the loss of our ice cream parlor after 107 years.

To all of our Jewish friends and neighbors, may we wish you a joyous Passover.

Remember to fly our American flag above all others. May God bless our armed forces, may God bless our disabled veterans, may God bless our NYPD and may God bless our America.
