This year's event featured special contingent of marchers.
Members of the Francis Lewis ROTC carried the 125 unclaimed flags from the Queens Chapter 32 of the Vietnam Veterans of America's program to give proper military burials to indigent veterans.
Volunteers handed out flyers along the parade route with the names, birth and death dates, and branch of service for the veterans whose flags the chapter is storing at its Whitestone headquarters.
The VVA hopes that a family member will recognize one of the names and come forward to claim the flag.
Former VVA chapter 32 president Pat Toro started the program after he learned that veterans with no known next of kin were being buried in the city's potter's field on Hart Island.
Working with Hess-Miller Funeral Home, the organization started arranging for the veterans to be buried with full military honors at Calverton Cemetery.
The group is working on create an online list, but in the meantime family members who think they may be related to one of the veterans can contact Chapter 32 at (718) 746-3160.
