I hope that you had an enjoyable St. Patrick's Day. It was a bright day and the parade could not be better. I remember in our Manhattan office how we changed every name plate, placing an "O" in front of our names, in this way we were all Irish for a day.
I've heard that many were taking the Woodhaven Business Improvement District's advice and eating out in Woodhaven or ordering in, for our restaurants prepared great corned beef and cabbage. It seems that St. Patrick's Day is always a great day for all to enjoy.
Our WBID still has free benches available for any of our Woodhaven's Jamaica Avenue stores or businesses. Give us a call at our office at (718) 805-0760 if you want one. Also, when you are shopping encourage your storeowners to call us regarding getting one of these durable attractive benches. They have separators, so no one can lie on them, they are for sitting and resting only.
If you are thinking of opening a business or store, our Small Business Resource has a program with free seminars for entrepreneurs, especially veterans. On April 1,from 8:30 a.m. to noon at 290 Broadway there will be a workshop. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org This workshop is free of charge.
The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation still has 2 ½ and 5 percent low-interest home improvement loans available at our office. Please call me at (718) 805-0202.
The building at 78-19 Jamaica Avenue that collapsed is still in bad shape with rain pooling and tarp shredding. The next court hearing is on April 10. Tear it down!
As you have heard, I resigned after 40 years as a Board Member of the WRBA. I have always stated that I became involved in Community Activism because I wanted to “make a difference.” I hope that I continue to accomplish this aim. I know that the current Woodhaven Residents' Block Association board will continue the hard work and good work that has been our hallmark since the inception of our organization.
I will continue to be an active member of our WRBA, but not as a board member. I also know that the board will continue to be, as I so aptly named tit a long time ago, “The Guardian of Woodhaven.”
Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 12, for our WBID “Spring Promotion” with music and clowns from 1 to 4 p.m. along the avenue and free pictures with the Easter Bunny in Forest Parkway Plaza. Also. Look for our WBID staff members with their WBID hats distributing free quarters on our Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue to parking cars, thanking them for shopping here by paying for their first 15 minutes on the meters.
May God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces, may God bless our disabled veterans, and may God bless our America.
