The WBID will welcome spring with our "Spring Promotion 2017" on Saturday, April 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. It will feature with live music by Plastic Soul with the Easter Bunny taking free pictures with the children and those young at heart (also little doggies) in Forest Parkway Plaza.
Look for WBID staff distributing free quarters on Jamaica Avenue to parking motorists thanking them for shopping our Woodhaven BID by paying for their first 15 minutes on the meter.
Woodhaven has many great senior citizens and a very nice and relocated Woodhaven Senior Center is open.
So if you want to enjoy a nice lunch, good company and fun activities, including arts and crafts by GWDC's own Lisa Komninos, join our Woodhaven Senior Center at the American Legion Hall 89-02 91st Street. Call (718) 847-9200 for more information.
Our local 102nd Precinct is still down in crime under Deputy Inspector Deodat Urprasad. The telephone number is (718) 805-3200, for emergencies call 911.
In regard to law enforcement, District Attorney Richard Brown has created a squad to investigate animal cruelty, abuse and neglect in our borough. As of July 2014, this law enforcement function is no longer under the auspices of the ASPCA, it is now the responsibility of the NYPD.
Thank you D.A. Brown for protecting our residents and now our animals.
In Woodhaven we are very fortunate to have a large animal hospital to care for our pets. Dr. Fish, a GWDC honoree, has retired and our new veterinarian is Dr. Eshak Benyamen. The new name of the hospital is St. Mina Animal Clinic.
Congratulations to Raj Rampersad, who was re-elected as chairman of Community Board 9, and to Woodhaven's own Richard Smith and Kenny wilson, who were re-elected as first and second vice president.
The shopping on Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue is brisk. The avenue has such bargains and so many choices, and the prices are also very reasonable, especially for New York City with our high cost of living.
So shop Jamaica Avenue and save money and keep your money in your community.
Mark your calendars for our “Spring Into Summer” dinner dance on Friday, June 9. Tickets are still only $65. This is an important fundraiser for the GWDC. Please call our Office for more information and to reserve tickets.
May God bless our armed forces, may God bless our disabled veterans, may God bless our leaders, may God bless our NYPD and police officers everywhere, and may God bless America.
