Dear Editor,

We elected Mayor Bill de Blasio to run our city, not run away from it.

His recent jaunt to Hamburg was just the latest in a series of overseas trips in which he tried to position himself as a global statesman, which is "globa-loney."

Deceitful de Blasio claims he's taken "only limited excursions" as mayor. But the New York Post reports that he's flown outside the U.S. 11 times since taking office and spent a total of 77 weekdays away from City Hall, not counting his trips to Albany and Washington.

He is a frequent flier who infrequently and ineptly does the job he's paid to perform. Bill's greed exceeds his travel miles.

He filed a “statement of need" seeking $2.9 million in taxpayer money for matching funds to run in September's primary election. That's on top of the $4.8 million he's already collected from donors.

Compare that to the $124,000 raised by his chief primary opponent Sal Albanese. But hold your fire for a minute.

Our mayor also wants us to pay his $2 million legal tab he got while fighting charges of corruption. If Comptroller Scott Stringer approves this payment, public advocacy lawyers must file a motion in court on behalf of all taxpayers to block this outrageous outlay.

Since our mayor loves to travel, let's send him on another journey on November 7, a one-way trip from Gracie Mansion back to his Brooklyn home.

Bon voyage and good riddance.

Sincerely,

Richard Reif
