The esteemed National Dance Company of Ireland will present “Rhythm of the Dance,” a two-hour breathtaking dance and music extravaganza at On Stage at Kingsborough.
The show will feature 22 step dancers, 3 tenors, and a live band. Attendees will be able to experience an epic journey through the ages, from ancient mythology to the travels of the Irish emigrants from the rolling hills and stone walls of Connemara all the way to the modern skyscrapers of New York, with some surprises along the way.
“Rhythm of the Dance” has heralded a new era in Irish entertainment, internationally rated as one of the most popular Irish step dance shows in the world. Since its debut performance in Norway in 1999, “Rhythm of the Dance” has played to over 7 million fans in 36 countries worldwide. Choreographer Dane McKiernan has toured the world with Riverdance and Prodijig.
The story features an array of traditional Irish dance styles from the Slip Jig, a female soft shoe dance used to convey strength and unity among a group of females to the oldest native dance style, Sean Nos which transforms from a solo dance into powerful and harmonious full cast stepping and plenty of the jigs, reels, and polkas.
"On Stage At Kingsborough brings high caliber performances from internationally-renowned artists to the southernmost tip of Brooklyn,” said Anna Becker, Executive Director of On Stage At Kingsborough. “Our season offers leading artists in exclusive Brooklyn engagements, with something to offer for all ages and tastes. This year we present everything from Russian ballet to family circus to Irish dance and the best in jazz and cabaret.”
The one night performance, with its beautiful costumes, will be an exciting mix of tradition and modernity.
