Jamaica Avenue's commercial strip was teeming with Woodhaven and Queens residents looking for great bargains, thrills and classic fair-style eats on Sunday for the 36th annual Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival.

This year's event – which ran from 80th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard – featured pony rides, live music from local bands, antique cars, games and a wide variety of vendors peddling both great food and unique wares.

One local resident who did not wish to provide her name said the fair was really a great excuse to try different types of food. She brought her sister out so she would have someone to split things with.

Like last year's fair, one of the main highlights of the event was the special performance by the Malaysian Lion Dancers. Joining the dancers was members of Shorinjiryou Karate, who have been part of the festival since its inception.

In addition to the all of the temporary sellers lining Jamaica Avenue, the annual event is an opportunity for local businesses to get increased foot traffic and for residents to see all of the new shops on Jamaica Avenue.

The event is sponsored by the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation in conjunction with myriad local businesses.
