Just another study

Dear Editor,

The MTA allocated $5 million at the request of Mayor Bill de Blasio to initiate a feasibility study for the Utica Avenue subway extension.

Two years later, the MTA has yet to issue a request for proposals from consulting firms to perform this study. It is a clear sign that no one at the MTA is really interested in pursuing this project.

The proposal would extend the 3 and 4 subway lines in East Flatbush along Utica Avenue from Eastern Parkway to Avenue U. The first phase of the Second Avenue and 7 line extension averaged $2 billion per mile.

One can only imagine how many billions would be required to do the same along Utica Avenue.

This is just a waste of valuable transit dollars for yet another transportation study. It would just line the pockets of a consultant, but leave riders and taxpayers with nothing tangible in return.

Sincerely,

Larry Penner

Great Neck

I agree Larry: Since when these public transportation studies should be reliable these days unless we really need it?
