On January 29, the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation held our annual meeting at Woodhaven Manor. We discussed some of our accomplishments from 2018, along with our plans for 2019, which were outlined in our Annual Progress Report.
Members and guests listened as representatives from our elected officials spoke. They were Julio Salazar representing Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, Linda Fogal representing Assemblyman Mike Miller, and Gregory Mitchell representing Councilman Robert Holden.
Officers from the 102nd Precinct also attended, including Deputy Inspector Courtney Nilan, commanding officer of the 102nd Precinct. As a surprise guest, Assistant Chief David Barrere, commanding officer of Queens Patrol Borough South, addressed the audience.
It was a very informative evening for those that could make it out on a cold rainy night. If you would like a copy of the Annual Progress Report, please call our office.
Community Board 9 will vote next week on the approval of our annual street fair, which is scheduled for October 13. We have been working on this since December, gathering petitions, support letters and much more. We will let you know as soon as it is official and we are approved for another year of sun and fun.
The next event scheduled is the Spring Promotion, which will be held on April 13 in Forest Parkway Plaza. More of that to come in the March column.
Until then, Happy Valentine’s Day and don’t forget the special election for public advocateon February 26. Make your vote count!
To all of our Asian friends, we say Gong Xi Fa Cai! Hope you have a wonderful New Year.
