Dishan Elise, the founder of the fitness group Human@ease (pronounced “humanities”), had a vision.

“I didn't want people to feel intimidated by fitness,” she said, speaking of commercial gyms. “I wanted them to have a hands-on experience.”

A native of Staten Island, Elise found her way to fitness in her twenties as a personal trainer.

Since the fitness organization opened in 2010, 37-year-old Elise and her husband have worked to help improve the lives of everyone from couch potatoes to health nuts.

“My favorite thing is that initial encounter,” Elise said, who admitted that new clients were often skeptical that all it took to stay healthy through the gym's program was a weekly 30-minute work.

Without paying the price of a personal trainer, Elise said she helps new clients through her trademark introversion training that uses key body parts to release tension.

“It's really all about tapping into your body in a very holistic setting,” she said.

Depending on skill level, each workout is catered to the level of the individual through weight resistant machines featured in the gym.

Adding to the routine, Elise said the organization's giving back, with some proceeds going to local charities.

Working out, according to Elise, is a lifelong commitment. “It's important to try and instill that exercise is a habit,” she said.

Human@ease is located at 31 Nassau Avenue in Greenpoint. For more information call (718) 388-2900 or visit their website.
