Council approved a measure to rename the corner of 205th Street and Hollis Avenue after the famous hip-hop group Run DMC. The corner will soon be called "Run DMC JMJ Way" to honor the group, whose members all were born or grew up in Hollis. Introduced by Deputy Majority Leader Leroy Comrie, the bill was passed at the Council's Stated Meeting and will be sent shortly to Mayor Bloomberg for signing into law.

Run D.M.C. was founded in the early 1980's by Joseph "DJ Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C" McDaniels, and the late Jason "Jam Master J" Mizell. The legendary group is considered to be one of the most influential in rap music history and has been crowned "Greatest Hip Hop Group of All-Time" by

Their seven albums and numerous hit singles paved the way for rap music to become the multi-billion dollar industry it is today. Run D.M.C is also credited for immortalizing Hollis as one of the birthplaces of hip-hop.

"Given their historic accomplishments, Run D.M.C. is a tremendous source of pride for the Hollis community I represent," stated Council Member Comrie, who chose the 205th Street location because it is close to the Hollis Hip Hop Museum (203rd St and Hollis Avenue) and is also the site of a famous mural dedicated to the late Jam Master J. Plans for an official street renaming ceremony are scheduled for later this summer.

Obviously Murray misses the days of chained slavery and segregation. He must have been ready to slit his wrists when Mr. Barak Obama got elected. Sorry Murray.

Here is more footage and interviews from that historic day

Get a life Mr. Hill, if you recall the kid that accused Michael Jackson of being a pedophile, told the media that he lied. Run-DMC are not nor were ever gangsters....Ooops, in you face... Stop hating......

Sure, let's legitimize and honor this negative culture that glorifies violence, revenge and murder. Why not? We're in the new America. Change! The recent death of Michael Jackson illustrates how we are ready to honor an obvious paedophile and junkie, so why not throw gangstas into the mix. Go ahead America and celebrate the lowest common denominator, because that is what you are becoming.
