Last week, I wrote in reference to two despicable men who stole our wreath and two American flags from the Woodhaven World War II Monument.

This monument, which was placed in Forest Parkway Plaza in 1955, honors the Woodhaven residents that sacrificed their lives for us during that war. Every year the GWDC places a wreath in honor of these brave heroes, and it stays there throughout the year untouched.

But these individuals who took it not only dishonored our Woodhaven heroes, but our America. The GWDC will get another wreath, but just know that this was an act against our residents, our community and America. As I stated last week we have you both on video.

We know who you are. Your complete disgusting act recorded, including you twirling the wreath and then throwing it and the flags into the Jamaica Avenue. These guys were obviously very drunk. (You can view the video on the Woodhaven BID Facebook page.)

This story really went viral. I think it touched everyone to see our memorial and American flag so disrespected. The NYPD is asking for any information on these two perps to be reported to Detective Middleton at (718) 805-3212 at the 102nd Precinct.

The people in Woodhaven are outraged, for you do not disrespect our veterans and you can not desecrate our American flag and get away with it. We will not tolerate these actions. We will find you both and you will be punished.

We honor and love our veterans and we love our American flag. Another wreath has been placed at the memorial and we thank whoever installed it for the thought, but the GWDC has ordered a new wreath that we will be placing there shortly.

Now, from this very upsetting event to enjoyable events. The WBID is working very hard planning our WBID-sponsored Holiday activities. Our lights are lit and holiday music is playing from Dexter Court to 100th Street. Our Forest Parkway Plaza will again have the beautiful artificial tree that we had last year, since we lost our 27-year-old tree to Sandy.

Mark your calendars for Friday, December 5, at 6:30 p.m. for the Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony, and Saturday, December 6, and noon for the Welcome Santa to Woodhaven Parade. We will have many groups marching this year. So show up and march with us.

Also, this Saturday, November 29, is “Small Business Saturday.” The WBID will sponsor a free trolley car along Jamaica Avenue from Dexter Court to 100th Street.

Have a happy Thanksgiving, for we in America have a lot to be thankful for. Fly our American flag proudly above all others. May God bless our armed forces, may God bless our leaders, may God bless our disabled veterans, and may God bless our America.
