I always write my column the first week of each month, but somehow with the holidays and all of the hustle and bustle I missed writing it last week.
The year 2019 brought about changes, but some things still stay the same. We held our usual promotions, and this year added the Santa parade to our “to do” list.
Santa did his thing, and also took pictures with us on Maria Thomson Way (Forest Parkway Plaza) one weekend in December.
We have some new and interesting ideas for the GWDC in 2020. We have our street fair date already planned. It will take place on Sunday, October 11, pending Community Board 9’s approval, which will vote on it later this month. We will keep you posted.
Before you know it baseball season will be here again, we hope to get more tickets to Citi Field this year. The GWDC secured tickets to two Mets games in 2019, but we hope to try for more than that this year.
We will host the Metrocard Van in the warmer months, and the Bunny Promotion right before Easter. And hopefully we will have a “Let’s Make a Deal” fundraiser in early spring.
We have flyers promoting our events and news from other agencies on our door at 84-01 Jamaica Avenue by Chase Bank, so browse them when shopping the Avenue if you want to know what is happening.
If you are in need of a job, the U.S. Census will be hiring. Go to 2020census.gov/jobs for more info. I am told the pay is really good and the hours are flexible.
See you soon. Happy New Year 2020 (a week late) to all!
