Isn't it great? Spring has arrived and it feels like summer with warm days. This should be the "shower" month, but April hasn't lived up to that title yet so get out and enjoy.

Great news, the 102nd Precinct is getting 16 officers from this graduating class. We can use them, because there is no better deterrent to crime than a police presence.

The fact that we have a responsive 102nd Precinct that keeps our Police statistics low, and now with more officers it makes Woodhaven an even more desirable community to live in.

The commanding officer of the precinct is Deodat Urprashad, and the telephone number is (718) 805-3200.

Saturday is Earth Day, and Woodside Avenue from 75th to 77th streets in Woodside and Shore Boulevard from Ditmars Boulevard to Astoria Park South in Astoria will be car-free for the day.

The NYPD was given $20 million from the Queens District Attorney's Office from asset forfeiture funds. This 20 money will be used to fund community policing. Thank you District Attorney Richard Brown.

There will be two recycling events in April. The first is sponsored by Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley and will take place on Saturday, April 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Maspeth Federal, 56-18 69th Street in Maspeth.

A second recycling event will be held on Sunday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Forest Park Bandshell parking lot. It is sponsored by State Senator Joseph Addabbo and Assemblyman Michael Miller. Call (718) 738-1111 or (718) 805-0950 for more information.

There will be a job fair at Atlas Park, 71-19 80th Street in Glendale, on Saturday April 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Finally, the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation Dinner Dance scheduled for June 9 has been cancelled. Hopefully, the GWDC will hold the social event later this year.

May God bless our armed forces, may God bless our disabled veterans, may God bless our NYPD and officers everywhere, and may God bless our America.
